St. Joseph County Road Commissioners
The Commission meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month in the white block building next to the offices located at 20914 M-86, Centreville, MI 49032. Please see the meeting schedule. Special meetings are posted and advertised as required by law. The meetings are open to the public unless otherwise posted. Citizens are encouraged to attend.

John was appointed to the Road Commission in the Spring of 2010. He was re-elected as Chairman in January of 2013. He has been elected ten times to public office having served his community for 20 years in a variety of positions. He is a former Chairman of the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners and Past President of the Michigan Guardianship Association and the St. Joseph County Realtors Association.
John is committed to working with the other road commission board members and the management team to continually improve road commission operations. He very much enjoys serving the citizens of St. Joseph County and looks forward to hearing from you.
John lives in Fabius Township with his wife Sharon who is a special education teacher for the St. Joseph County ISD. His son James is owner of Apex Painting in Portage. James is married to Mindy, a nurse for Borgess Hospital. John is an active member of Maple City Toastmasters and Three Rivers Rotary.
John is a professional asset advisor and the CEO of a multi-faceted Michigan based real estate and auction firm. For John personal relationships are among the greatest rewards. His new book You Are a Winner – Coloring Book aims to inspire and teach young people real world winning (Success) attitudes and behaviors. |

Rick was appointed to the Road Commission in 2007. He is very interested in networking with other road commissions to share cost-cutting ideas and consolidate operations. His goal is to implement best practices to improve services to the motoring public of St. Joseph County. Rick retired from American Axle & Manufacturing in Three Rivers. He was previously employed at the Kalamazoo County Road Commission for twelve years, where he acquired hands-on experience building and maintaining roads. He has been a board member of the St. Joseph County United Way and currently serves on the Michigan Works Kalamazoo and St. Joseph Counties Board. In 2010, Rick was selected to be on the Commissioner’s Committee for the County Road Association of Michigan. Rick graduated from Vicksburg High School and earned degrees in biology, conservation and education at Central Michigan University. He and his wife have been Park Township residents for thirty five years, raised two children and enjoy the rural lifestyle. |
David Yunker of Sturgis 269-506-2246

David is currently serving in a second term on the Road Commission Board. He was first appointed in June of 2006 to fill the balance of an open term. He has lived all of his life in St. Joseph County, graduating from Sturgis High School, and eventually Central Michigan University. As a small business owner in Sturgis his philosophy is that government should be held to the same standards of fiscal responsibility that businesses are, and should view the taxpaying citizens the same as business views its shareholders. David currently resides with his wife and two children in Sturgis Township. He is active in his church and in his children's schools, enjoys spending time outdoors hunting, and riding 4-wheelers and working on the family's "hobby" farm. |

Dave was appointed to Road Commission in May 2011. His primary interest is in working with staff and his fellow road commissioners to deliver high quality services, county-wide, in a fair, equitable and fiscally responsible fashion.
A twenty-four year resident of St. Joseph County, Dave is Vice President, Regulatory Compliance & Community Development for Midwest Energy Cooperative (MWE) in Cassopolis, Michigan. Prior to joining MWE in November 2008, Dave spent three years as Vice President, Business Development Officer for First National Bank in Three Rivers, three years as Executive Director for the St. Joseph County Economic Development Corporation, one year as Manager, Business Retention with Southwest Michigan First in Kalamazoo and fourteen years with SEMCO Energy in both Three Rivers and Battle Creek. When he left SEMCO Energy in 2001, Dave was Manager, Central District Operations & Public Affairs.
A native of Battle Creek, Michigan, Dave received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1983 and his Masters of Public Administration degree from Western Michigan University in 1986.
Dave’s wife, Julie, has taught at Squire’s Elementary School in Cassopolis for over twenty years. They have two children, Ashleigh and Casey, and presently reside in Three Rivers, Michigan. Currently, Dave serves on the boards of the following organizations: Glen Oaks Community College, Cass County Economic Development Corporation and Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, St. Joseph County Economic Development Corporation and Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, Three Rivers Rotary and Michigan Saves. |
Eric Shafer of Three Rivers 269-208-8004 |
Eric was appointed to Road Commission in May 2011. Eric was born in Michigan but raised in California. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley and then he and his wife Georgina moved to Michigan where he managed a civil engineering firm in the Three Rivers area while pursuing a master’s degree at Western Michigan University. He then went to work for Waste Management as an environmental engineer and is now a District Manager. He and Georgina have been married for 32 years, have one child and reside on Fisher Lake just outside of Three Rivers. Eric has been actively involved in community organizations for many years and was elected as a St. Joseph County Commissioner in 2002 where he served three two year terms. He is currently on the board of the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce, the County Board of Public Works, the County Planning Commission and the County Solid Waste Planning Committee. He has been a member of the Three Rivers Rotary Club since 1999 and is currently an Assistant Governor representing five Rotary clubs in St. Joseph and Cass Counties. |

Holiday Schedule:
New Years Day, All Presidents Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve Day, and Christmas Day.
If a holiday falls on Sunday then Monday shall be considered the Holiday and if the holiday falls on Saturday then Friday shall be considered the Holiday. In the case of Christmas Eve Day, the holiday shall be designated to be the preceding workday before the Christmas Day Holiday.
